He settled on a farm in Greene township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, in 1849, and succeeded George Baker, who had taken a life lease of the farm, date not known, but was one of the early settlers.

He was a farmer and lumberman in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, during the greater part of his life.
