He was educated in the common schools and learned the plumbing trade at Pitcairn, Pennsylvania, in that department of the Pennsylvania railroad. In November, 1904, he was appointed justice of the peace in Larimer, and at the February election was chosen to succeed himself. He voted with the Republican party.
