Washington, Washington Co, PA

He was reared in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, his education being secured at the common schools of the neighborhood, and at Beaver academy. For some years he was a traveling salesman for a wholesale house, but abandoning commercial life commenced the study of dentistry in the office of Dr. J. G. Templeton, Pittsburgh, attending also the Dental College at Ann Arbor, Michigan, and the Pennsylvania Dental College, where he graduated. In 1880 he moved to Washington, Pennsylvania, and engaged in the active and successful practice of his profession.

In 1863 the Doctor enlisted in the one hundred days' service, and in 1864 re-enlisted, this time in Company H, Fifth P. V. A., was promoted second lieutenant of his company, with which he served until the close of the war, being mustered out June 30, 1865, at Vienna, Virginia.

The family residence in Washington was on the corner of Wade avenue and Wheeling street.
