He was born in Manor township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and passed the greater part of his life in East Donegal township, where he engaged in farming until he retired, some seven years before his death. He was a successful man, accumulated a comfortable competence, and was one of the directors of the Lancaster County Bank.
