At the age of sixteen he entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company at Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania, rising by the several graduations of service to his present responsible position of assistant to the president of the Railroad Company, and president of the New York, Philadelphia & Norfolk Railroad Company, also of many other railroads. His main residence was in the town of Radnor, Pennsylvania, where he had a beautiful estate.
