General Notes: Husband - Henry W. Sage, Esq.

Ithaca, Tompkins Co, NY

The founder of Sage College, Cornell University.

General Notes: Wife - Susan L. Linn

She was one of the founders of the Brooklyn (New York) School for Training Nurses, and liberally endowed the female department of Cornell University. On Saturday, July 11, 1885, while returning with her husband and Miss Kate Linn from a visit of mercy at Slaterville, near Ithaca, she was, about half past six p. m., thrown from her carriage and instantly killed. Her former pastor, Henry Ward Beecher, said of her in his address at her funeral, "Her soul had entered into the very spirit of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; to her virtues were joined all the graces which education could give, with great hopefulness, and that rare gift, the illumination of humor, which, together formed a wondrous combination of Christian character. She was a most noble, Christian woman, who, once known, can never be forgotten."
