He was appointed a midshipman in the United States Navy from New York on March 26, 1800, when in his eighth year. He resigned July 7, 1803, and was reappointed December 17, 1810, promoted to lieutenant, April 27, 1816, commissioned master commandant, March 15, 1836, to date from December 22, 1835; promoted captain, September 21, 1841, to date from September 8, 1841, and was placed on the reserved list, September 13, 1855. In 1832, when commanding the United States schooner "Boxer", Captain (then Lieutenant) Page visited Liberia to suppress piracy on the coast of Africa (for his report in relation to which see American State Papers, p. 179 sq-I vol. iv, Naval Affairs, Washington, 1861).
He was buried in the John R. Livingston vault in Trinity churchyard.
