General Notes: Husband - Benjamin Franklin Long, Jr.

He received a common school education and farmed with his father until his twenty-second year, when he came to Duffs, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, then Carpenter Station. About a year later he entered into partnership with Alexander Duff in the general store business, which they long continued. Mr. Duff was appointed postmaster, and Mr. Long his assistant, in 1889, under the administration of President Harrison. Mr. Long was a Democrat in politics, but in a Republican community was elected to the office of assessor for five successive terms of three years each, ample proof of his popularity among his fellow citizens. Prior to his incumbency of this office he served in the capacity of auditor for one term. He was a member of the Junior Order of American Mechanics, filled all its offices while the lodge was at Larimer, and was several times its representative at state sessions. It was later known as Irwin Lodge, No. 44. He was also a member of Knights of the Golden Eagle, Electric Star Castle Lodge, No. 131, of Turtle Creek, previously of Larimer. He also filled all offices in this lodge and was its representative at state meetings several times. [HWC 1906 III, 26]
