George S. Long Of Knox, Dies
KNOX — George, S. (Sid) Long, 80, of Knox, a retired employee of Quaker State Oil Refinery in Emlenton, died at 3:55 pm Thursday in the United Community Hospital Oakhill Facility in Grove City.
He died following a brief illness.
He was born in Salem Township in Clarion County on November 6, 1898, a son of George and Christina Exley Long.
He was married to the former Dearle Miller on January 24, 1925 and she survives.
Mr. Long had been employed at the Quaker State Refinery in Emlenton for 38 years before retiring in 1963.
After his retirement, he was associated with the William N. Rupert Funeral Home in Knox.
He was a member of the Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Nineveh.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dr. Vaughn R. Long of Mercer and Robert E. Long of Knox; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Clemens Long of Meadville and Dr. Freeman Long of Shippenville.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Custer B. Long who died in 1955.
Friends will be received at the William N. Rupert Funeral Home after 7 pm today and from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Saturday.
Services will be held at 2 pm Sunday in the funeral home with Rev. Maurice Friedlund, pastor of the Grace E. C. Church, officiating.
Interment will be in the Knox Union Cemetery.
In place of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to a charity of one's choice.

Dearle L. Long
Mrs. Dearle L. Long, 75, of Knox, died at 11:25 pm Saturday in the United Community Hospital in Grove City fol­lowing an extended illness.
Born September 13, 1905, in Wheeling, W. Va., she was the daughter of Clyde Ellsworth and Georgia Mae Mong Mill­er.
She was married on January 24, 1925, to George S. Long who preceded her in death on March 1, 1979.
Mrs. Long was a life-long member of the Grace Evangelical Congregational Church at Nineveh. She was church pianist there for over 25 years.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Vaughn R. Long of Mercer and Robert E. Long of Knox; a sister, Mrs. C. R. (Geraldine) Stewart of Knox; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; several aunts uncles, nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband were her father, Clyde E. Miller in 1954; mother, Georgia Mae Miller in 1973; and three brothers, Everett Miller in 1910, Donald Miller in 1971 and Eugene Miller in 1976.
The family will receive friends after 3 pm today in the William N. Rupert Funeral Home in Knox.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Tuesday in the funeral home with Rev. Maurice Friedlund, pastor of the Grace Evangelical Congregational Church at Ninevah, officiating.
Interment will be in the Knox Union Cemetery.
