General Notes: Husband - George Ross Scull

He was educated in the schools of Somerset and at Chambersburg Academy. After the completion of his school work he assisted his father in editing the "Herald" and at the same time took up the study of law. In 1880 he was admitted to the bar and the following year was elected District Attorney for Somerset County. Realizing the great need in Somerset of the stabilizing influence of a National Bank, he organized the First National Bank of Somerset in 1889. He was elected vice-president and his father president. In 1900, upon the death of his father, he succeeded to the presidency. The great success of the First National Bank and the rapid development of the resources of Somerset County in the nineties prompted him to organize the Somerset Trust Company in 1900. He was elected president of the new institution. For a period of years he was president of the First National Bank, of Confluence, which he also organized.
Associated closely with his father in political as well as business affairs, like him, he for many years was a Republican leader in his county and enjoyed the friendship and confidence of many of the state and national leaders of his party. He was chosen to represent his Congressional District as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1892-1896-1900-1904, and as a delegate from the State-at-large in 1912.
