He and his wife came to America about the year 1771, and settled in the Juniata valley, Pennsylvania, where they lived until 1785, when they removed to Allegheny County and purchased a farm near the town of Wilmerding.

He and his wife, with five sons and one daughter, came to America from county Down, Ireland, about the year 1768.
