General Notes: Husband - Joseph Pawling

His father was descended from English ancestry, and crossed the ocean to America while this country was still a dependency of the British Crown; he located in Chester County, Pennsylvania.

He removed early in the 1800s to what is now Snyder County, Pennsylvania, purchasing a tract of 400 acres of land near Selinsgrove, he engaged in business as a farmer and hotel keeper. [CBRCP-CCUS, 853]

His father came from England about 1700, settling in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, then a frontier point.
He settled in 1794 in what is now Snyder County, Pennsylvania. [CBRCP-CCUS, 1020]

By his first wife he had one son, who moved to the West. With his second wife he had four sons [another source: three sons] and four daughters. One of his daughters became the mother of Judge H. P. Ross, president judge of Montgomery County. [Other sources give completely different parents for Judge Ross.]

He served in the Pennsylvania militia during the Revolution. About 1794 he removed to Snyder County, Pennsylvania, and later to Salem, Union County.
