Frank H. Smith Died Monday
HAD SERVED ON THE COUNCIL AND WAS A BIG FARM OPERATOR.
Had Been in Wretched Health for Some Time and Was Content to Die.
Former Alderman F. H. Smith of the second ward, died at his home, corner Sheldon and Stoddard streets, Monday, November 13, after a long period of ill health. In fact he had become so discouraged he welcomed death to relieve him from his sufferings. As an alderman Mr. Smith was conscientious and thorough in his public work. As a private citizen he was clean and honorable in all his relations. For some time Mr. Smith had operated large farms close to the city being owner of a fine property on the Lansing road at the time of his death.
Born in Pennsylvania
Mr. Smith was born at Rockford, Pa., August 16, 1865, his parents being Abram and Mary Smith. He was one of a family of seven children, four girls and three boys, all of whom have passed to their reward with the exception of two sisters, Mrs. Laura S. Neeley of Saegerstown, Pa., and Mrs. Cora Speck of Pemberville, Ohio, who are here to attend the funeral, also three half sisters, Mrs. Samuel Burgard, Mrs. Ada Elliott and Mrs. Fanny Lewis all of Franklin, Pa., and one half brother, Clayton Smith of Bakersfield, Cal.
Widow and Three Children Survive
Of his immediate family he leaves to mourn the loss, his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth May Smith, two sons, Arthur D. of San Gabriel, Cal., and Rosco M. of Detroit, and a daughter, Mrs. Burl Slosson of Eaton Rapids.
The funeral was held from the residence, 302 N. Sheldon St., at 10 o'clock Thursday, Nov. 16, Rev. Meader of the M. E. church officiating. Interment at Maple Hill.

Mrs. Frank Smith Passed on Monday
Mrs. Elizabeth May Smith, 75 years old, died Monday at her home, 302 North Sheldon street. She was born at Rockland, Pennsylvania, May 5, 1864, a daughter of George and Charity Lusher. Her husband, Frank Smith, died several years ago. Funeral services were held at the residence Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, in charge of Rev. Fern Wheeler and Rev. Manning. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery. Surviving are two sons, Arthur D. Smith, San Gabriel, California, and Ross M. Smith, Detroit; one daughter, Mrs. Beryl Harmon, Charlotte, and five grandchildren.
