General Notes: Husband - Ethelbert "Berty" Lusher

Ashtabula, Ashtabula Co, OH

This person is of special interest to the compiler of this web-site; he shares the same surname. At the present time, the only information about this individual comes from his application(s) for a marriage license(s). Anyone having further information about him is encouraged share it.

The idea suggests itself that the three persons cross-referenced here are the same individual. The compiler is not an expert in handwriting analysis, but the signitures seem to have some similarities. The family tree of this surname from Rockland Twp, Venango County, Pennsylvania, has been carefully researched by the compiler of this web-site and it is not clear where this person might fit in. Could he be a son of Jacob Z. Lusher, who died at Andersonville Prison during the Civil War? He would thus be a brother to Eleanor (Ellen) Lusher, and he resided in some of the same places as Rebecca, Jacob's wife. In two places he listed John and Margaret Lusher as his parents, but in this scenario they would be his grandparents - possibly his guardians who reared him after the death of his father? In the third instance, he listed his parents as John and Ellen, which doesn't appear to fit. And the age(s) stated on each application makes him a bit too young to be a son of Jacob. Could Rebecca, after Jacob's death, have had a union with someone and borne him out of wedlock, thus he would bear her surname, and it was not unusual in that day for grandparents to take in the child of an un-wed daughter and raise that child as their own.
