Children

General Notes: Husband - Thomas Franklin Lyon

In his childhood he attended the local public schools and there received his education. The gaining of an education was not so easy for this lad as it is made for the majority of his fellows, for it was necessary for him to engage in some kind of a remunerative occupation at the same time that he was carrying on his studies, even while little more than a child. He worked at any kind of task which presented itself to him, and when sixteen years old he apprenticed himself to a printer, where he learned that trade and for a time thereafter followed this trade in the employ of the two local papers, the "Tribune" and the "Herald." He remained at this work for about four years, and then for the twelve succeeding years held a position as private messenger. In the year 1891, Mr. Lyon became associated with the Westmoreland County Water Company. He worked there in a clerical position for a time, and was then advanced, first to the position of bookkeeper and later to that of assistant treasurer of the company. In 1898 he became associated with the Greensburg Building and Loan Association, in the capacity of director, and held that office for eighteen years or more.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian church and was very active in working for the interests of that body in Greensburg. He served his church as treasurer for more than fifteen years. He was also interested in Sunday school work.
