General Notes: Husband - William Maclay Lyon

Early in life he became a member of the firm of which his father was the head, Lyon, Shorb & Co., Pittsburgh, and soon gave evidence of business abilities of a high order. In the application of new methods and new principles in the manufacture of iron he was ever in the lead. He was largely endowed by nature, intellectually and physically. To not a few was he counsellor, friend, and benefactor; his extreme diffidence caused him to avoid opportunities for distinction; though in the promotion of public enterprises and whatever might inure to the benefit of Pittsburgh, the city of his residence, no man excelled him. His sudden death was publicly lamented.
