General Notes: Husband - Owen Maclay

He was an officer in the army of James II, followed the fortunes of that royal personage, remained a bachelor and died in France.

It is stated that Owen Maclay, son of Charles Maclay, Baron Fingal (by his first wife), returning from France, desired to take Charles (his nephew), to that country and educate him, and let him know what estates belonged to him; in case of a revolution he could lay claim to estates and title. The father of Charles would not consent without a guarantee that his son would be brought up in the Protestant faith. To this Owen would not accede, returned to France and dying, left estates, etc., to strangers.
