General Notes: Husband - Lt. John Nesbit Taylor


He was a well-known teacher of York County, Pennsylvania. At the beginning of the Civil War, he resigned his position in the York County schools and enlisted as a private in Company K, Second Pennsylvania Infantry. He was mustered out, but immediately re-enlisted in Company G, 166th Pennsylvania Infantry as first corporal. In 1862 he was advanced to the rank of first lieutenant. He participated in the battles of Falling Water, Bunker Hill, the Siege of Suffolk and Hanover Junction, Virginia, and for his valiant conduct was awarded a gold medal by the Pennsylvania Legislature. At the close of the war he was appointed superintendent of the York County schools.
