General Notes: Husband - John A. Marchand

He studied law with his uncle, Henry C. Marchand, 1862, and was admitted to the Westmoreland county bar in 1864. He practiced with his uncle until the death of the latter in 1882, and then continued practice alone until February 8, 1886, when he entered into partnership with Paul Gaither, under the firm name of Marchand & Gaither, continuing until his death. He was a director in the Farmers’ National Bank, Greensburg, served in the town council, and was at one time Democratic nominee for state senator, being defeated by E. E. Robbins. He served as private in Company C, Fifty-fourth Regiment, State Militia, and stood high in the Masonic orders. His death closed the Marchand law offices, which had been opened by Albert G. Marchand in 1833, continuing uninterruptedly for sixty-three years.
