He attended the public schools of Irwin and the Western University of Pennsylvania, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, read medicine with his father, and graduated from the medical department of the University of Pennsylvania in 1894. He thereafter resided and practiced with his father in Irwin, being assistant surgeon to his father for the Pennsylvania railroad.
