He was graduated from Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, and from the Princeton Theological Seminary. He held pastorates at Gloucester City, New Jersey, the Rock and Zion churches in Cecil County, Maryland, the First Presbyterian church of Wilmington, Delaware, and later at the old historic church of St. George, Delaware.
