General Notes: Husband - Benton R. Wilson

He was reared a farmer, and enjoyed limited advantages for education.
In December, 1875, he left the old homestead, and moved into a large and palatial residence, which he had erected on a beautiful knoll, only a few rods from the old building. The contrast between the two structures was most striking. The new home was a model of convenience and beauty, and an excellent specimen of the architecture of the centennial age. With the exception of the doors and window-sash-which were of pine-the wood for the structure was all grown on the homestead farm. The inside wood-work was of ash, black walnut and chestnut, handsomely finished in native colors.
In 1872, he erected near the site of his own residence, a very neat and comfortable house for his mother, and tenderly cared for her in her declining years. For nearly thirty years she was a cripple, and unable to walk without the use of a cane, on account of an injury received by being thrown off a horse about the year 1848. She was distinguished for great energy and whole-souled benevolence, and also for her economical and frugal habits. When she married her husband, she assumed the responsible and delicate relations of a step-mother to a large family of children, but as such, she most efficiently and kindly filled her place, and those children entertained for her feelings of the highest regard and the most tender affection. She united with the Presbyterian Church at the age of seventeen, and her life was a beautiful exemplification of her Christian faith.
He was a man of conservative views, yet of great decision of character. He held his religious connection with the Neshannock Presbyterian Church, and was a deacon in the same.
