General Notes: Husband - Donald McCalmont Plumer

He early began earning his own livelihood and in 1920 became associated with the American Steel Foundry, in Franklin, Pennsylvania. A few years later he started a grocery business in that city, which prospered and won a fine reputation. In 1925 he sold the establishment and purchased a garage and automobile agency at Cochranton, Pennsylvania, which he operated until 1929, and then returned to Franklin to enter into an association with his brothers, Joseph, Samuel and Charles, in the wholesale and retail tobacco trade. In 1939 he and his brother, Fred, became equal owners of the Marvin Manufacturing Company, of Franklin. This concern was interested in the manufacture of oil compounds, such as chemically hardened greases, and sold to a world-wide trade, with many branch sales offices in America and foreign countries. Its large factory was located in Franklin, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Plumer was a staunch Democrat, influential in party circles, but no seeker of public office although he was a candidate for sheriff of Venango County, in 1936. He was a popular figure in fraternal circles, being affiliated with the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, of which he was a member of the board of governors; the Fraternal Order of Eagles, of which he was a trustee beginning in 1935; and of the Royal Arcanum. He was a member of the Protestant Episcopal Church, as was his son, Donald. Mrs. Plumer and the daughter, Jean Marie, were of the Catholic faith.
