He and his wife came to America from Bedwin Magna, in Wiltshire, England, in 1685, bringing four children with them: Mary, Sarah, Hannah, and Rachel. They settled in Middletown, Chester County, Pennsylvania.

They came to America from Bedwin Magna, in Wiltshire, England, arriving 10th month 16th, 1685. They resided in Aston township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, for some years, and Thomas was taxable in 1722, but on the 4th of the 12th month of that year they received a certificate to Chester Meeting (Quaker). In 1735 they removed to Goshen, taking a certificate to that Monthly Meeting, dated 7th month 29th, which stated "that they were pretty orderly in their conversation, and at times frequented our religious meetings."
