General Notes: Husband - Lewis Martsolf

He was reared on the home farm in Center Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and attended the neighborhood schools during boyhood. He devoted himself entirely to farm pursuits, making a specialty for some years of raising Shorthorn cattle. His fine herds brought high prices and he kept as many as thirty-five head at one time. Following his marriage, he rented land first in Franklin Township, later in Clay, then Butler and Clay again, until 1889, when he bought the farm of 100 acres, which was now occupied by a son, and in 1898 he bought 130 acres more and several years later purchased an additional eighty acres. This was some of the finest land in the township and Mr. Martsolf had the best improved farm in the section. In 1900 he put up a fine residence and all his farm buildings were of substantial construction.
