General Notes: Husband - Finley Ambrose Mateer


Before beginning a business of his own, after receiving a good common school education in the Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, public schools, Mr. Mateer had several years of varied and profitable experience. He worked for various department and grocery stores as clerk until January 1, 1917. In that year he established the Mateer Shoe Store in Kittanning, which he owned exclusively and operated on a large scale, utilizing the services of seven employees and the floor space provided by basement and ground floor.
A Democrat in political sympathies, Mr. Mateer lent his support to projects for community betterment, and he was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club. He was a communicant of the First Presbyterian Church.
