OBITUARY: Donald W. Smith, 85, of 217 12th St., Franklin, died at 11:55 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2001, in Northwest Medical Center, Franklin. A son of Carl and Vernis Titus Smith, he was born April 10, 1916 in Rockland. He was a graduate of Rockland High School. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe and Africa. He worked for Koppers in Rouseville from 1945 to 1977. At the time of his retirement he was a clerk in the shipping and receiving department. Mr. Smith attended the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Franklin. He was a 50-year member of the VFW. He was well known as a friend in his neighborhood and would often help neighbors by mowing or shoveling snow. He was married May 28, 1948, to the former Clara Mays, who preceded him in death June 3, 2000, Surviving are several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clair L. Smith. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Huff Chapel, 312 W. Park St., Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Greg Beeman, pastor of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Rockland Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 10 W. Front St., Oil City, 16301, or the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 1200 Otter St., Franklin, 16323.
