General Notes: Husband - Andrew Russell, Sr.

He came to America in 1758. He was married in this country and settled near Oxford, Chester County, Pennsylvania, afterward moving to Canonsburg, Washington County, where they resided till 1782. He then bought a farm in Chartiers township. He was a blacksmith by trade, having brought his tools from eastern Pennsylvania, and, being the only one for miles around, his services were in constant demand.

He and his wife were born in Scotland and emigrated to America, first locating near Oxford, Chester County, Pennsylvania. In 1782 he purchased and moved onto a part of the Crawford-Neville Military Patent, in Chartiers township, Washington County, also purchasing another farm on the north branch of Chartiers creek. A log cabin was erected, which in due time was supplanted by a more commodious residence, their original home being afterward used for a blacksmith shop. Seven daughters and three sons were born to this couple.

About the middle of the eighteenth century he married, and, in 1758, the couple came to America, settling near Oxford, Chester County, Pennsylvania. He was a blacksmith by trade, and followed that occupation all his life. Ten children-three sons and seven daughters-were born to him and his wife while living in Chester County. After the birth of their youngest child, they removed to Washington County, Pennsylvania, locating about four miles southeast of the town of Cannonsburg, where they lived until 1782, when they changed their residence to Chartiers township, in the same county, and there passed the remainder of their lives.
