General Notes: Husband - Rev. Samuel Taggart


He was born in County Antrim, Ireland, and his youth was spent in that country, in Montreal, Canada, and in Pittsburgh. He attended the common schools, and then entered Western University of Pennsylvania. He later attended the Theological Seminary of Allegheny, from which institution he was graduated in 1834. His first charge was at West Middletown and Vernon, where he preached a period of fifteen years, then went west to Harmony, Illinois, where he was pastor of a charge for eighteen months. At the end of that time he returned to West Middletown, Washington County, Pennsylvania, where he was pastor of the church until 1884, at which time he retired from active ministerial duties. He was originally a Free Soiler, and became a Republican upon the organization of that party.

He was born in County Antrim, Ireland, and came with his mother and brother John to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He took his degree at the Western University, later the University of Pittsburgh, in 1831 and studied theology at Allegheny Seminary. He served as pastor of the West Middletown Presbyterian Church in Washington County from 1835 to 1855 when he went to the United Presbyterian Church at Harmony, but returned the following year to West Middletown, where he remained until September, 1884.
