General Notes: Husband - Thomas Sidney Powell

Until he was eighteen years of age he attended the district schools of Mercer and Venango counties, PA. He taught school for some time and then learned the stone-mason’s trade, and became a contractor and builder. In 1879 he bought up a number of timber claims in Perry Township and with the raw material which he thus obtained engaged in the timber business for four years. In 1884 he commenced farming and was thus employed for four years when he became a hardware merchant of Hadley. During the entire period of his voting life Mr. Powell has been a stanch supporter of the Democratic Party and his party commenced to honor him as early as 1875. In that year he was elected auditor of Mercer County, has held other local offices and served at least four terms as justice of the peace.
