---

He received a common-school education, and at the age of ten years began farming, which he chose as his occupation. Gradually, with pluck and perseverance, he made his way in the world. He bought his first land while a young man, and went in debt for it, came to own 176 acres. He dealt extensively and successfully in stock. Mr. McCoy was a Democrat, and served as a school director.
