He was born in the old log cabin on the family homestead in Venango County, Pennsylvania, and was reared there. He inherited that part of the property lying on the west side of Oil creek, and lived there at the mouth of Cherry Tree run until 1865, when he moved to Pittsburgh, subsequently making his home at Perrysville. He and his wife reared a family of seven children, three sons and four daughters. [CAB, 801]
