He was born in England and there received a fine education. Of his family only he and his brother Richard came to America; they at first located in Philadelphia, but soon moved to Beaver County, Pennsylvania. Robert bought three hundred acres on the Big Beaver River, while Richard purchased a large farm on the Little Beaver River.
