General Notes: Husband - John McClain

---

He was born in Ireland, which had been the home of his ancestors for many years, but in 1779 he came to America, settling in Washington County, Pennsylvania, the following year. Soon after his arrival he was married and they began their pioneer life in the usual log cabin, where they lived for many years. Mr. McClain was one of the organizers of the Whig party in his vicinity, and in religious faith he and his family were members of the Presbyterian Church. He was laid to rest near the new home, by the side of his wife who had preceded him.
