General Notes: Husband - Hon. Matthew Potter McClanahan

He was educated in the district schools and New Athens College, Ohio. After leaving college he, for a short time, engaged in farming. He then turned his attention to merchandising, but not being entirely satisfied with the business, he entered upon the study of dentistry with Dr. Miller, of West Newton, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
He held a number of important township offices, and in 1866 was elected associate judge of the courts of Westmoreland County. He was re-elected in 1871, holding the position for ten years.
He was noted for his piety, his upright life, and his devotion to the church-the United Presbyterian-with which he had united many years prior to his death.
