Ernest R. Montgomery
Ernest R. Montgomery, 74, of Galloway Road, Franklin RD 5, died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1993, in Northwest Medical Center at Franklin.
Born March 11, 1919, in Franklin, he was a son of the late Fred and Hannah Brown Mongomery.
He married Eva McCool on Nov. 6, 1943, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. She survives.
Mr. Montgomery was the owner of Mongomery Apiaries.
Active with beekeepers for 58 years, he was past president of the Venango County Beekeepers Association and a member of the Clarion County Beekeepers Association and Pennsylvania Beekeepers Association. He made many presentations in school with the beekeepers.
Mr. Montgomery was active in 4-H, and he was a judge at the Crawford County Fair. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, outdoors and woodworking.
He helped with Meals on Wheels. He belonged to the Myrtle Lodge of the Masons, the Venango Royal Arch Chapter, Keystone Council, Franklin Commandery, Washington Club, the Lodge of Perfection of the Valley of Oil City and the New Castle Consistory, Valley of New Castle.
He retired from CPT in 1982 after 37 1/2 years as a lay-out man.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Rankin Montgomery of Franklin; two daughters, Mrs. John (Alfreda) Kurtich and Mrs. Richard (Judy Y.) Shingledecker, both of Franklin; a brother, Leonard Montgomery of Franklin; a sister, Mrs. Connie Grantham of Tionesta; and seven grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home in Franklin.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Galloway United Methodist Church with Rev. David S. Hampson officiating.
Interment will be in Graham Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Galloway United Methodist Church.
