He moved with his parents [from Path Valley, Franklin County, Pennsylvania?] when he was three years old to Indiana County, Pennsylvania, where he lived until 1850, in which year his father died.

He had 240 acres in Metal township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, [inherited from his maternal grandfather?] upon which he erected the best of buildings, etc., and had a farm of 163 acres two miles from Chambersburg. He gave his attention to farming and stock raising.
Mr. and Mrs. McCormick were members of the Presbyterian Church.
