General Notes: Husband - Rev. Alpheus D. Potts, D.D.

He received his early education in the schools and academy of Delmont, Pennsylvania, and then entered Muhlenberg College, at Allentown, Pennsylvania, from which institution he graduated with honor June 27, 1872, being the valedictorian of his class. He then entered the Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, from which he graduated May 19, 1875. He was ordained a minister of the Gospel March 28, 1875, and accepted a call to Ligonier, where he remained ten months, resigning because of ill health. He next accepted a call to the Franklin township pastorate, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, in 1879, and served there until 1883, when he became the pastor of St. Paul's Church, Pleasant Unity, remaining there thirteen years. He was next called to the First Lutheran church of Youngstown, Ohio, but his impaired health compelled his resignation after having served that charge acceptably for thirteen months. He was called, in 1889, to the Watersheet parish, Petersburg, Pennsylvania, where he was still stationed as late as 1906. The degree of Doctor of Philosophy was conferred upon him in 1895. Rev. Potts was a member of the Society of Science, Letters and Arts, London, England. He was a lecturer of note, whose services were in constant demand. He was a classical as well as a scientific scholar, a clear thinker, a vigorous writer, a popular platform speaker, an eloquent divine, and an unassuming gentleman, who had many friends wherever he was known. Politically he was a Republican, and served as postmaster of Delmont for three years.
He had seven children with his first wife; five of these were still living in 1906.
