He was descended from the Scotch Presbyterians who were driven by persecution from Scotland and settled near Belfast, Ireland. He died there. His wife died in Allegheny, Pennsylvania.

General Notes: Wife - Margaret McCoy

---

Several of her brothers and sisters came to the United States, settling first in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, later coming to Allegheny City (Pittsburgh North Side), arriving there in 1860. All of her brothers fought in the Union army in the Civil War. She was a relative of the Boggs family, an ancient one in western Pennsylvania, that having been the maiden name of her mother.
