He graduated at LaFayette College, and became a resident of Portland, Oregon.

He taught school at Ebensburg, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere. Later he was engaged in editorial work for Werner Company edition of Encylopedia Britannica, at Akron, Ohio. He was Postmaster at Akron during the Wilson administration.
