General Notes: Husband - George McCray

---

During his youth he remained at home and received a common school education. When manhood's state was reached, he purchased two farms of 100 acres each, one of which was a portion of the family homestead tract. But farming was not his chosen calling, and leaving that to the management of others, he followed lumbering, but always as a jobber. He was also a pilot on the Allegheny River, being considered by many to be the most expert pilot in that section. In politics he was a Democrat up to Lincoln's time, when he changed his views and died a strong Republican, having held many township offices.

Obituary:
Mrs. Sarah McCray, an aged lady living at E. Titusville, died at her home Feb. 6, 1886-aged 75 years, lifelong resident of Oil Creek twp. Her mother's brother was Billy Miles of Girard who died when about 100 years old, and her husband's father, George McCray, died somewhere in the 70's (?). She married August 1831, her cousin, George McCray who died 1864 aged 58 years. They had 3 boys and 8 girls, all of whom survive except 1 girl who died in infancy: Andrew J; Mrs. Martha M. Scott; Mrs. Mary W. Fulton; Mrs. Rebecca H. Whaley; Miss Elizabeth C.; Mrs. Nancy J. Hogue; Mrs. Deborah A. Young; Mrs. Sarah M. Green; John W.; Merilla L. (died in infancy); Lemand D.”
