Civil War: he was a member of Co. A, 54th Pennsylvania volunteers, about four years, and was taken prisoner.

Bates, History of Pennsylvania Volunteers, Vol II, Pg 142:
He was mustered into service February 10, 1864. He was promoted from Serg't to 2nd Lieut. on Dec. 14, 1864; to 1st Lieut. Mar. 1, 1865-commissioned Captain, April 3, 1865. He was not mustered out, but was discharged by General Order, May 31, 1865.
