General Notes: Husband - James Lee McFate

He was born at Cochranton, in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, where he graduated in the public and the high schools. In 1890 he removed to New Castle, and after having been employed for a short time at the grocery store of J. W. McClain, he taught at the New Castle Business College for one and one-half years. His attention was then given to the newspaper field, and he accepted a position with the New Castle "News," later removing to Beaver Falls, where he became manager of the Beaver Falls "Republican." Returning to New Castle, he there engaged in reportorial work for the Pittsburgh "Leader," which position he resigned to accept his appointment as chief of police at New Castle, April 1, 1899, while Mayor Warnock was in office. He so continued until 1901, and on January 26 of that year he was appointed county detective. It was in 1910 that he formed a partnership with Clyde N. Lockhart, under the firm name, McFate & Lockhart, wholesale dealers in confectionery and tobacco.
Mr. McFate was a Republican in politics, and he supported with his vote the principles of that party.
Prominent in the civic activities of New Castle, Mr. McFate was a member of the Board of Trade, and the United Commercial Travelers, also the Rotary Club, of which he was a past president. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, and he was the historian of that church in New Castle, having prepared and delivered the address at the seventy-fifth anniversary of the church.
