General Notes: Husband - Joseph McFate

He and his wife resided for many years in Venango County, Pennsylvania. They moved to Crawford County, locating on a farm in Cochranton, in 1866.

He was brought to Venango County, Pennsylvania, as a child of two years. He farmed near Plumer, until oil was struck on his land on the banks of Cherry Run, a small tributary of Oil Creek. He transferred the property to two of his sons, who then sold it to an oil company for $80,000.00. In the spring of 1865, they found a suitable replacement property in Cochranton, the farm of Rev. Hugh H. Thompson, with its substantial new brick house. Rev. Thompson relocated in Urbana, Ohio, and sold his home to the McFates for $20,000.00. By May, the family had moved in, and had transferred their membership from the United Presbyterian Church of Cherry Run to the Cochranton United Presbyterian.
