General Notes: Husband - Simon McGrew

The McGrew family was founded in America by a member of the Society of Friends, who came from the north of Scotland whither he had fled from religious persecution in Ireland. On his arrival in the American colonies he settled in eastern Pennsylvania.

Simon McGrew, a descendant of the emigrant ancestor, came as a young man to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, cleared a portion of a farm, built thereon a log cabin, and then returned to Adams County for his bride, with whom he eloped, taking her from the window, and after they were married making the journey to West-moreland County on a pack saddle.
