General Notes: Husband - Loyal Swift McJunkin

He attended the public schools of his native town, and at his father's death he succeeded to the insurance business, and represents many of the leading companies of England and America. He is a Republican, and was a delegate to the State convention in 1880. He was a member of the Masonic order, and was con-nected with the Presbyterian church. From 1875 to 1881 he was a member of the National Guard of Pennsylvania.

He was born at Butler, Pennsylvania, where he attended the public schools. He succeeded his father in the fire insurance business, and he continued in the insurance and the real estate business. The original firm name was J. T. McJunkin, and afterwards J. T. McJunkin & Son; then Loyal S. carried on the interests of the concern in his own name until 1904, when he received as partners his brother, Ira McJunkin and George A. Mitchell, and on that date the name was changed to L. S. McJunkin & Company; thus Mr. McJunkin was the oldest insurance man in point of service in Butler.
He had many other business associations besides, including his presidency of the American Mirror Works, and he was president and one of the founders of the Citizens' Building and Loan Association, and was a very large landholder. A Republican in his political convictions, he was a Republican delegate to the State Convention of 1888. He was a member of Company A, Fifteen Regiment, National Guard, 1875-1881. Mr. McJunkin's fraternal affiliations were those of Lodge No. 272, Free and Accepted Masons; Pittsburgh Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite; a life member of Syria Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine; a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; Indepen-dent Order of Odd Fellows; and Loyal Order of Moose. He was for twenty-seven years a member of the board of directors of Butler County General Hospital, and was one of the charter members of the Local Young Men's Christian Association, and was connected with the association ever since its organization. He was one of the charter mem-bers of the old Sterling Club; he was a member of the County Club, and of the Board of Commerce, of Butler; and was one the board of directors of the North Cemetery Association. His religious faith was that of the Presbyterian Church.
