General Notes: Husband - John McKnitt

The spelling of this name is variously recorded as McKnight, MacKnite,
McKnitt and later, McNitt. Regardless of changes in spelling, the name seems unquestionably derived from the family settled in Somerset County, Maryland, about 1680.

The MacKnitt family disappears from the Cecil County, Maryland, records at an early date. It reappears in the history of Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, with five brothers "McNitt" who settled near the foot of the Seven Mountains in 1766.
