General Notes: Husband - Chauncey Smith

He was engaged in banking affairs in his early life in the city of Buffalo, New York, and at Harbor Creek, New York, but later settled in Youngsville, Pennsylvania, as a general merchant.

In 1823 he came by stage to Dunkirk, New York, and went to work for his uncle, Walter J. Smith, and after a while became a partner. The firm later became Van Buren & Smith, Walter Smith retiring, and in 1839 Mr. Smith came to Silver Creek, New York, where he became engaged in the general mercantile business from which he retired in 1860, when he also retired from active business life.

In early life he was a merchant at Dunkirk, New York, and later at Youngsville, Pennsylvania, retiring from active pursuits in his later years. He was an attendant of the Episcopal church, of which his wife was a member, and was a Republican in politics.
