General Notes: Husband - George Speis

He was one of the finest jewelers and watchmakers in Germany, and learned the trade with his father, who was never excelled in his day as a fine workman. George Speis and his father constructed two very complicated and remarkable timepieces; one was an astronomical clock made for the Grand Duke of Westphalia, and the other was a large clock at Steubenville, Ohio. It ran twelve months without winding, struck the half and quarter hours and beat the seconds.
He was a member of the German Lutheran church.
