The Uncapher name was brought to America in 1700 by Martin Ungefehr, but it was not until after the Philip (Uncapher)Ungefehr branch had left Virginia in the early part of the last century and had settled in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, that the spelling of the name was changed to Uncapher.

He was born in Germany, and coming to the United States, settled in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. He followed farming.
